What Does A Webcam Model Do?

What does a Webcam Model Do?

A very common question, very commonly answered incorrectly. Webcam models are often promised huge sums of money when they sign up. And after a week or so of not seeing huge sums of money they give up or quit. Webcam modeling is not just sitting in front of your computer waiting for people to pay you to masturbate. It isn't that easy, nor is it that perverse. Webcam modeling is work, and not easy work. There is an art to making money on cam and you have to acquire that art.

So how does it work you say? And what do you mean I don't make $1,000 my first week? All the ads say you can. Yes, I know. All the ads are very misleading. They lure you in with promises of big money just to get you signed up under them. A good studio like F4F will actually provide you with guidelines, direction and representation to help you make that money.  They tell you what a webcam model does to make money.

So here's how it works. First of all, you can make $1,000 a week. Maybe even $2,000 a week or $5,000 a week. But, it does not happen the instant you log onto your computer. Personally, my first week was slow. I would make minimal dollar amounts. Like seriously minimal. Maybe $2.35 one day and $6.00 the next day. I almost gave up. I thought I was scammed. But, I had paying customers in my room constantly talking to me. For those of you unfamiliar with the term paying customer, let me break it down. Sites like F4F  have paying customers and guests. Paying customers come into your room and are identified by screen names in bold or white. Guest users who do not have purchased credits they can spend on you are gray. Obviously the paying customers are the ones you cater to. However you should talk to everyone.

While the guests can not spend money on you, the paying customers can. Have fun with them. Talk to them, ask them where they are from. If they compliment you, thank them. If paying customers are in your room and see you talking to everyone and having fun with them, they are going to be interested in you. Despite the fact that these webcam sites offer visual stimulation, personality is the key. This is how I made my first private session happen. Paying customers in the room saw me talking to guests and joined the conversations. They enjoyed my humor and my friendliness. They were drawn to me and wanted to spend time alone with me. The more personable you are, the more business you will get.

And once you get one customer, the others come really quick. I went from one week making about $10.00 to the next week making over $600. I realized the key was the free guests. While they can't pay for private time with you, they initiate conversations that intrigue the paying customers. Utilize every free user that starts talking to you . . . unless they are vulgar.

Yes, the free users can be quite obnoxious. You do have the ability to block them, however then it looks like you are taking an easy way out. I use these poorly behaved people to make the paying customers appreciate me even more. Here is a common phrases and my fun reactions to it:

guest: "Take it off bb (baby)"
me: "But then I would be naked"
"I don't want to take away from your imagination"
"Awww, this looks so good on me though"
"That would be naughty. I can't just get naked in public"
"OK, but you have to take yours off first."

The key to these hecklers is to never look mad. Kind of laugh and smile and give them clever responses that are neither direct "nos" or "yeses." The more positive you are, the more paying customers will like you. They love a person who can sensibly handle situations. Generally when you are straightforward with heckling guests in a clever way, they stop with ridiculous comments. You also don't want to chase them out of your room. Other guests and paying customers may see you as rude and they will leave. The more people you have in your room, whether they are paying customers or free guests, the more likely you are to make sales.

Don't get naked and show people your body in the free room. Be revealing, be flirty, but let them know that you can't get too carried away in the free room. If you were to show more then you should people wouldn't go private with you. Why go private if you are giving everything away for free?

Talk sexy, but not slutty. Generally when people take you private it is because they like you. They want a relationship with you. Not a physical relationship, but an internet relationship. They spend a lot of money to go private with you. Because of this, they want to return to the same model over and over. This is a big money making advantage for you. I have regular customers that see me about twice a week. It is because I have bonded with them. I make them feel like I enjoy our time together (actually I do). They know the relationship will never go beyond the screen of the computer, and they are fine with that. There are a million reasons why someone would want this type of relationship. That's a whole different blog though. Form a relationship online. Don't be afraid of the customers. They know they can't meet you. They may joke about it...joke along and laugh about it. I personally tell them I would bore them in real life. The customers who do want this relationship to continue online will never degrade you. They will treat you better then anyone you have met in real life. They want you to want them to come back. They want you to like them. This is where judgmental people have webcam models all twisted. They think that it is lonely, horny men online talking dirty and making you perform sick, demeaning sex acts. 100% NOT true.

Occasionally there will be a paying customer who wants to see more then the usual. When this happens, keep calm, keep sexy and laugh about it. Never, ever, ever do anything you don't want to do. I never have. Another misconception is that all webcam models are forced to do things on camera they don't want to do. Not once have I ever done anything I didn't want to do. I have turned down requests to do things. Despite the fact I have turned down requests, the customers who have asked it are still loyal customers. I simply act all shy and innocent and say "I don't think I'm ready for that" or "Oh oh. (then laugh) I've never done anything like that" or "I'm so sorry, that's not really my thing (sad face). I hope your not mad." And everytime, the customers laugh with me and usually feel bad for asking. As long as you don't flat out tell them no or act disgusted you are fine. As long as you handle it gracefully and make them feel like you feel bad, or feel like you don't want to lose the relationship, the customer will be there to stay.

Scheduling. Scheduling is very important. Paying customers know when you are going to be on and will work to be on when you are on. Some of them will even have the system set up so that they get e-mail notifications when you are online. The key to consistent customers is to be on at the same time each week. F4F allows you to post your schedule. Keep this current and up to date and be online when you say you are going to be. If you are not online when you schedule yourself, and your paying customers come on ready to spend time with you and you are not there, they may find a new model. You don't want to lose your customers to other models. Some customers will get a routine. I for example know at 6:30 my baseball jock will be on. At 8:45 my Canadian will be on. And at 9:30 my best customer is on. If I know I won't be on a certain night, I tell them in advance so they don't think I blew them off, or so they don't bother logging on looking for me.

Ranking is very important - more so on F4F than LiveJasmin. The higher you rank, the more visible your profile is. F4F gives you points outside of performances. They allow you to blog, which if done puts you in the top 50% of performers. They also allow customers to give you points. With these points, you rank higher. The higher you rank, the more people can see you online. Blog. You want this high ranking to get advantages F4F can offer. Higher ranking performers get features like Party Chat and Group Chat. If you have these, you will make money easily. More on those amazing features in a later blog.

I think I have bombarded you with information. In summary, what does a webcam model do? A webcam model flirts and has fun. A webcam model smiles and make guests feel welcome. A webcam model is patient and doesn't give up. If you can make a schedule and stick to it. If you can build up some customers over a week or two, then you are golden. Take a chance and see what happens. You know more then I did when I started so you have an advantage and could even prove me wrong by making $1,000 your first week. It has been done.
